About End the Stigma
As an individual who struggled with mental health, I know what it feels like to be ignored and not taken seriously. My target audience for End the Stigma is individuals who struggle with mental health and want to make an impact beyond their communities. This year made me realize that raising awareness for the importance of mental health needs to happen more than ever. The rumors, stereotypes, and judgments need to END NOW.

What are common stereotypes about mental health?
1) Mental illness is a result of poor parenting: Poor parenting can affect you mental health, but it does not cause an individual to have mental illness. 2) People with mental illness are dangerous and unpredictable: According to data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions, only 3% of people with mental illness are violent. That means 97% of people with mental illness are not violent. |
